About Me

Old Coulsdon, United Kingdom
An acquired refugee from the days of exile at Selhurst Park, my first game being a dreary 1-1 draw with Millwall. I followed the team back to The Valley, and have now been with them for over twenty years. You will find me in the Rose of Denmark or in the Lower West. Follow me on Twitter @DeepestDarkest1

How Long?

There has been much speculation as to who may be staying at Charlton next year, and even more as to who may be going. I have indulged in this a little myself, but then I thought, "I wonder when so and so's contract runs out". We may want to see the back of Weaver and Todorov, for example, but you know what? There is no guarantee that we will, if my investigations are accurate.

What I have done is try to establish when the first team squad contracts expire. Some of this information is on the player profiles at the Charlton website, but by no means is this always the case. I have therefore been rummaging around tinternet. Because of that, I cannot guarantee the accuracy, but please let me know if you have better information on a player, and corroborate it if you can. I will then keep the list updated. In the case of two players, Uchechi, and Thomas, I have not managed to find any contract detail, so please feel free to rise to the challenge, and let me know what you find. I have also included Clark and Stavrinou, who we are told will be offered professional contracts, but as yet, we have not been told how long they will be for.

  1. Fortune signed a three year deal in the summer of 2006.

Weaver signed a two year deal in the summer of 2007.

Todorov signed a one year deal last summer.

Thus, unless they have signed new deals in the meantime, and I don't remember seeing it, nor would I have thought it would have made sense as they are all on serious money, they will all be out of contract in June this year.

Despite his salary Fortune will be a loss, but Weaver looks past his best and Todorov has made little, or no, impact at all in the last two years that he's been earning a fortune by second division standards.

All those finishing in 2010 will be a problem too as it is unlikely they will want to sign an extension on what we can afford now, and very few players fail to get a huge pay rise when they are out of contract.

  2. This doesn't correlate to what Mark Kinsella said about 14 players being out of contract this summer (as opposed to returning to their loan clubs). I understood Todorov was given a one-year extension after his knee injury last season; Uchechi has apparently signed for West Ham; some of the others may have been 2-year contracts with one-year options (which Charlton historicaly favour) - this may be why Weaver and Sinclair are showing in your list as having deals that run to next year, when the consensus is that they do not.

Thanks KHA and Pedro, and therein lies the problem. I have seen information that is different to yours, although I do like the option explanation Pedro, as that could easily explain the difference in the numbers. I suppose we will just have to wait and see what happens, but I still think there are players that may not be as easy to move on as people think.
