About Me

Old Coulsdon, United Kingdom
An acquired refugee from the days of exile at Selhurst Park, my first game being a dreary 1-1 draw with Millwall. I followed the team back to The Valley, and have now been with them for over twenty years. You will find me in the Rose of Denmark or in the Lower West. Follow me on Twitter @DeepestDarkest1

Really?

Populist? Almost certainly. Cheap? Compared to a manager with experience; of course. The right choice? Hmmm - really not sure about that at all. Every manager has to start somewhere of course, and you can rightly point at Curbishley from our not too distant past, but remember it took him two years to come up with a team capable of challenging. Will our current owners afford Powell that luxury? I somehow doubt it.

I do wonder who his number two will be though. That is an appointment of some significance now, given Powell's lack of experience. After the initial euphoria has washed away, and the business of gaining promotion takes priority over the feel good factor, a strong number two to help guide Powell will be crucial in determining our fate this season. Below, I give you what I consider to be an excellent posting on Powell's appointment by New York Addick.

This pretty much says it all for me really. http://newyorkaddick.blogspot.com/2011/01/asylum-seekers.html

  1. I'm not sure it's fair to say Chris has now relevant experience. He's been involved with coaching players of all ages, including pros, for longer than most would think. His experience at all levels of the PFA would also be relevant with dealing with players. He's also worked for a number of successful managers and will have that experience to draw on.

Yes, it's a gamble, but there are no guarantees with any of the more experienced candidates out there.
