And so with Randolph joining Motherwell on a free, the squad is effectively down to 12 senior players and 5 kids. It is now the 1st of July, and our first pre-season game is in two weeks time. It actually gets worse, as Bailey will be gone shortly, and both McLeod and Fleetwood are obviously not "fancied" to use footballing parlance. Hopefully Wagstaff and Basey are all but in the bag, but who else?
Parkinson talks of "several" signings in the pipeline awaiting the transfer of Bailey, and let's face it he will probably need a dozen to even have a squad capable of competing in numbers. I hope that there will be some loan signings in there, as I suspect that is the only way Charlton will be able to retain sufficient quality in the squad to thrive in the third division next season.
At present though, survival has to be the target.
