There will be huge amounts of conjecture as to what happens now, but last night the team did its level best to make us proud. As the official site says, they gave absolutely everything for the cause. It is just unfortunate that it was not quite good enough. The story of the season played out in one game really. We set off like an express train, all purpose and neat play. By the end the honest endeavour was there, but the quality had become intermittent at best, and the advantage was gone.
To go two up, and take the lead in the tie overall for the first time was excellent. To then see an opponent sent off quite rightly for trying to lodge his studs in Burton's chest was wholly appropriate, but how appropriate was it also that we managed to throw those advantages away?
Not really that surprising if we are being honest, after all this is Charlton - gotta love 'em!
On a night featuring two Irishmen:
ReplyDeleteJoey: Look, I know you're hurtin' now, but in time you'll realize what you've achieved.
Jimmy Rabbitte: I've achieved nothing!
Joey: You're missin' the point. The success of the band was irrelevant - you raised their expectations of life, you lifted their horizons. Sure we could have been famous and made albums and stuff, but that would have been predictable. This way it's poetry.
Poetry! - Wow, I bet it doesn't rhyme though!
